Admission Portfolio Help

Portfolio development help is one of the most valuable services

we offer students.

We carefully review the student’s work, assessing all possible portfolio

pieces. Students sometimes overlook pieces that are strong and

should be included in their portfolio.

We help students develop their strongest possible art & design

college admission portfolio.

Selective art & design programs request that applicants submit a portfolio
of their work as part of their application. An admission portfolio informs

the college as to whether a student has the skill and potential to

do the level of work necessary to succeed at that particular college.

Beyond this, a portfolio tells the college something about who the student

is, what interests them, how the student works—among other information.

Some colleges request that applicants provide specific types of work in

their admissions portfolio. Other colleges offer general guidelines as

suggestions of what pieces a student could include and how the portfolio

should be formated. Colleges may vary in what they want.

Students should keep in mind that there is not just one perfect or ideal
admissions portfolio. Outstanding portfolios are unique, although they may
share certain similar characteristics.

In general, students’ portfolios should reflect their current level of skill,
their familiarity with materials and processes, and their ideas by including
a range of recent work. Many colleges prefer that observational drawings
make up a significant part of a student’s portfolio. Other types of

work include: paintings, photography, printmaking, collage, sculpture

and/or other 3-D pieces such as jewelry, works in metal or glass. Fashion

design, web design. film/video, motion grapics and animation may also

be included, particularly if they represent an area of special interest

for the student.

If a student is lacking portfolio pieces or if their skills
need further development, we can work with the student to

help them strengthen skills and to create additional work.

Students often get conflicting advice about their portfolio from different

sources—art teachers, reviewers at portfolio events, their friends, etc.

We help students sort through this advice and pull together their

strongest, most successful portfolio.

Client Comments

“Meeting with Patricia opened

my eyes and helped me in more

ways than I knew I needed.

She worked around my

schedule to critique and build

my portfolio, and then also

educated me about various art

and design programs and their

strengths and weaknesses.

Her finely tuned eye is a great

tool for anyone looking to

receive feedback on their work

before submitting it to a school

and for any process from

there forward.

While many prospective

students display talent,

Patricia's help and encourage-

ment pulls more out of each

individual to further their

success and potential.

The help from Patricia does not

stop there! Being more than

a mentor, she is genuinely

interested in each individual

and their progress and

happiness at the college at

which he or she ends up.

Patricia keeps up with not

only each person, but also

with the constant innovation

and advances in the art

and design field and its

institutions.”
